Homeopathy
Homeopathy
is one of the two most widely used forms of medicine in the world
today, because people are discovering the benefits of a system of
medicine that is safe, effective and treats them as unique individuals.
Homeopathy is a complete system of medicine that treats mental, emotional
and physical illness. Homeopathic medicines are chosen to treat the
whole person, because homeopaths believe the mind and body operate
as one, and that it is not possible to treat one part of the body
without affecting the whole. Medicines are chosen to fit all the characteristics
of the patient, so physical disorders are considered in relation to
the individual’s mental and emotional state.
Under EEC law, homeopathy is classed as a viable alternative.
Homeopathy
for all
Homeopathy can
be used effectively by everyone, from babies and children to adults,
including women during pregnancy. When prescribed appropriately, homeopathic
medicines are safe, non-toxic and non-addictive. They can be taken
alongside drugs prescribed by your doctor and will not interfere with
their beneficial action. As your condition improves, you may be able
safely to reduce your conventional medication, thereby avoiding the
unwanted effects that sometimes accompany the long-term use of drugs.
Pregnancy and childbirth
Pre-pregnancy
Homeopathy has a long record of treating infertility, especially where
there is no specific reason why the couple cannot conceive.
Pregnancy
Homeopathy can be used to treat
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Backache, back pain and neck pain
- Varicose veins
- Swollen ankles
- Cramps
- Food cravings
- Piles
and many other conditions.
There are even remedies that can turn the position of the baby in
the womb to avoid a breech birth. Many women experience emotional
concerns and fears at this time and homeopathic remedies can help
with these worries.
Childbirth
Birthing kits are available for you to take into the labour ward with
you. It is of course essential that you or your partner are familiar
with the remedies beforehand. Remedies can help with conditions such
as:
- Failure of the cervix to dilate
- Ineffective contractions
- Contractions stopping suddenly
- Nausea
- Weakness and exhaustion
Post-delivery
Remedies may be needed to help with bruised, sore parts of the body.
In the months following they can help with such things as
- Breast-feeding problems and difficulties
- Irregular periods
- Postnatal depression
- Infantile eczema
- Colic
- Sleep problems and irregular sleeping.
It can sometimes take days, weeks or even months to come to terms
with the reality of a newborn; homeopathy helps you to cope with this
major change in your life.
Typical problems treated
Tantrums and sibling jealousy
Tantrums can vary hugely from child to child. There are just as many
homeopathic remedies to deal with the individual’s needs, from
kicking and biting to hair pulling and helping come to terms with
a new brother or sister.
Learning difficulties
With autism ever on the increase, learning difficulties have become
rife among developing children. Homeopathy has had huge success with
children who are slow developers.
Bed wetting
This condition is more common in boys than girls, and without homeopathic
treatment, can continue long past the age of six.
Eczema / skin rashes
A common problem in young children that can be treated without recourse
to cortisone steroids.
Fevers
With fever linked with most childhood illness, it is always a reassurance
to have remedies at hand to control fevers.
Glue ear
Children can be slow learners at school because of loss of hearing
and heads full of catarrh. Homeopathy can resolve these problems without
inserting grommets
Childhood illness
In the early years of life, babies and children are susceptible to
a range of infectious disease, which includes Rubella (German Measles),
\Chicken Pox, Measles, Mumps and Whooping Cough. Although symptoms
are mostly manageable, occasionally they can cause discomfort, and
in very rare cases, there may be complications. Traditionally childhood
illnesses are regarded as an opportunity to develop strength and resilience.
Although unpleasant at the time, a child suffering from a bout of
chickenpox emerges with lifelong immunity from it.
Alternative medicine still upholds the view that childhood illnesses
are not necessarily a bad thing. So long as the child id healthy and
well nourished, symptoms should be relatively mild and manageable.
It is important to nurse a sick child through a childhood disease.
This may seem obvious, but there is a growing tendency to give children
antibiotics or painkillers and encourage them to carry on a normal
life.
Many homeopathic remedies help the child speed along their recovery,
from the itching skin of pox and measles to fevers, ear infections
and sore throats and mucous.
Vaccinations
Vaccinations are a hugely controversial topic. We can offer advice
on where to obtain further reading information and put you in touch
with other parents in the same situation.
First Aid for children
Having a homeopathic first aid kit at home, with some basic knowledge,
means you can treat your family for many minor remedies, which can
be administered for some of the following ailments.
