What is Podiatry or Chiropody?

Podiatry is the modern name for chiropody. It is a branch of medicine concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of medical, mechanical, surgical and physical diseases of teh foot, ankle and leg.

Podiatry can treat

  • Diabetic foot problems
  • Gait irregularities
  • Foot injuries
  • Nail infections and deformities
  • Pain caused by deformities or dysfunctions

What to expect

Your qualified practionist will ask you to
remove your shoes and socks
enquire about your discomfort or pain
ask about your medical history
discuss any lifestyle problems
physically examine your feet and ankles
ask you to walk if necessary to assess your gait.
Then suitable treatment will be planned and take place.

Follow up

This depends upon the condition being treated.
At least one other appointment is necessary to assess healthy progress.
Some conditions will need several appointments.
Sometimes insoles and other devices are prescribed.
